The new municipal grant policy will be a lot tighter as it tries to remove the emotion out of the decision making process.  Currently Kerry Costello, director of corporate services for Smiths Falls, is developing a matrix with council approval that will be applied to all applicants and will allow staff to apply the same measures to all applications.

Only those that pass the matrix will be brought before council and it’s hoped that a clearer policy will make the final decision process less fraught for council.

“Hopefully we can get to a point of not having to defend our decisions because they are very clear,” said Art Manhire, director of community services for the town.

In the meantime, Kerry Costello invites anyone that wishes to have input on the grant policy to contact her by email at or phone at 613-283-4124 ext. 1102.
