Arrest made in Smiths Falls armed robbery

UPDATE TO ROBBERY PRESS RELEASE

On Jan.11, 2017 there was an armed robbery at the Quickie Convenience store located at 110 Beckwith St N in Smiths Falls.  The assailant held up the lone clerk and left the area with an amount of cash and cigarettes.

Investigation with the assistance of Coburg Police and OPP Stormont Dundas and Glengarry detachment has led to an arrest in this incident.  The male was later identified driving a stolen vehicle in the Kitchener/Waterloo area which was stolen from Ottawa.  Investigation also revealed a crime spree throughout eastern Ontario with offences occurring in Smiths Falls, Ottawa, Iroquois, Brockville and Coburg.

Charged in relation to the Smiths Falls robbery is Dylan James Scremin, 23, of Kitchener. He is charged with:

  • robbery using a firearm,
  • disguise with intent,
  • carrying a concealed weapon, as well as breaches of prohibition orders and probation.
