Lanark County Interval House

As the anniversary of the Wilno murders causes communities to pause and as the trial is set to begin in October, an attempt murder has occurred in Lanark County. In Almonte Ontario, home of the murder suicide of February 2016, yet another woman’s life was almost taken by violence. September 20th, OPP Lanark County responded to a domestic violence incident and attempt murder charges have been laid against the alleged abuser. The accused will attend a bail hearing Friday September 22 in Perth Ontario.

As Lanark County Interval House prepares for our annual Take Back the Night March, Thursday September 21, 2017 at 6:30pm at the Carleton Place town hall, we are deeply saddened yet not surprised that lethal violence continues in our County.

Alongside our allies and partners we continue to work diligently to do whatever necessary to end violence against women and to demand justice. While our efforts are strong and determined we MUST as a community demand for systemic change and unite in our efforts.

To our courageous community members, please be mindful of behavior, actions and gestures that constitute violence. Please feel encouraged to call our crisis line 1-800-267-7946 and visit the Facebook page of See it, Name it, Change it. This campaign was created as a response to the number of murders and lives lost across three rural eastern counties, including Lanark County.

When we see violence we must name it and then we can change it! Please join us for the Annual Take Back The Night March in solidarity for this woman and all women!
