At the Dec. 13, 2016 council meeting, Jessica Smith presented Carleton Place council with an update about the events planned in Carleton Place for the 150th anniversary of Canada.

The anniversary committee, responsible for coordinating events throughout 2017, is hosting its first event on Jan. 1, 2017.

This year’s annual New Year’s Day Levee Skate event will be the kick-off party to a year of celebration, Smith said. The event is open to everyone and is completely free. It is hosted at the Carleton Place Arena located at 75 Neelin Street from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Jan.1. The Facebook page for this event officially launched Dec. 1, Smith said.

“We are thrilled to be kicking off a new year and our year-long celebrations to honour Canada’s 150th anniversary and hope you will join us,” said Smith.

The anniversary committee has a calendar of events with something fun happening each month. The calendar can be found online at carletonplace.ca.

“It looks like it’s coming together really well and we look forward to kicking it off Jan. 1,” said Carleton Place Mayor Louis Antonakos.
