As many as five Carleton Place representatives, including Mayor Louis Antonakos, will work with Lanark County and Valley Heartland Futures Development Corporation over the next four months to develop an economic development strategic planning process.

The project aims to build community capacity, develop stronger partnerships with stakeholder organizations, provide lower-tier municipalities with an opportunity to plan and implement economic development initiatives, and develop a realistic action plan.

Participants will work together to draft vision and mission statements, collect data, identify key issues, and explore previous economic development documents. This will lead to the development of action plans, implementation and monitoring strategies, and a final strategic plan by the end of July.

Valley Heartland is uniquely positioned for the project given its work on stimulating job creation and economic growth through business and community development in Lanark & North Leeds.

For more than 20 years, the group has invested in sustainable economic development, encouraged entrepreneurship and delivered financial and consulting services to small and medium-sized businesses.
