At the Jan. 10 2016 meeting, Carleton Place council authorized the staff recommendation that the striking committee be amended to include a website ad hoc committee. An ad hoc committee is a committee created for a particular purpose – in this case, to investigate a new or improved town website.

“I think it’s a worthwhile committee to set up because the website is our window to the world,” said Councillor Brian Doucett.

The ad hoc committee has been meeting regularly and working to review and improve the town’s website. The committee has investigated costs and capabilities of rebuilding and redesigning the existing website as well the costs and conditions for a totally new website.

“I think it’s a good opportunity to investigate a new approach, like trying a WordPress software at little or no cost,” said Doucett. “We need a fresh new look.”

Doucett admitted that he often runs into trouble using the town’s current website, which he said has been called “tired” and  “hard to navigate.”

Council will wait for the new committee to report a specific recommendation about the best way to move forward.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of this opportunity for something new and innovative,” said Mayor Louis Antonakos. “It’s only uphill from here.”
