Ryan Abbass was unhappy Monday. He brought a petition filled with names of people who live on Condie Street who object to the proposed reconstruction of the road. The proposal is for sidewalks to be constructed only on the west side of the street, rather than both sides.

Having lived there over 20 years, he says for safety reasons this is a bad decision. There are many kids who play on the street, elderly people walk their dogs, and/or just go out for walks down the street — both sides. He adds there are a couple of daycares on Condie as well. He hopes that the petition will convince council to defer the decision.

Troy Dunlop, Director of Public Works and Utilities, confirmed that Condie is a “low volume” street despite Abbass’ description of several weeks ago when the subway was closed down that the street was like a “racetrack.”
