Smiths Falls Police and Fire Department investigating the cause of the fire on Victoria Avenue

On May 7, 2018 at approximately 1:35 a.m. the Smiths Falls Fire Department responded to a fire at 80 – 82 Victoria Avenue. Mutual Aid from the Montague Fire Department and Perth Fire Department was called. Smiths Falls Police Service also responded to the scene.

This property housed 6 apartments. Sadly, there was one fatality. All other residents are accounted for and have been temporarily housed. The fire was contained the to third floor unit.

The Smiths Falls Police Service, Smiths Falls Fire Department and the Office of the Fire Marshal are currently on scene to investigate the cause of the fire. Smiths Falls Emergency personnel are asking that residents remain clear of the affected area until investigation is complete.

Lanark County Victim Services and Red Cross are assisting the displaced tenants. As of 7pm May 7 th police are still holding the scene for the night while Office of the Fire Marshal, Smiths Falls Police Service and Smiths Falls Fire Department will resume work tomorrow to determine the cause of the fire. There will be no further information released until the cause of the fire has been determined.
