Mayor Shawn Pankow extended heartfelt thanks to Joe Cayen and his wife Angie of Smiths Falls’ Canadian Tire at Committee of the Whole Monday night. “People come into our community and leave good impressions and strong memories,” he said of the two and their family who are moving to a bigger store in the Waterloo region. “Thanks for your time and commitment. You’re in the fabric of our community and will never be forgotten.”

Cayen said they were “flattered, honoured, and had a lot of fun. We came here as a lifestyle move — we love the lakes and the people.

“It broke our hearts to make the decision,” he added, saying they fought it for awhile but in the end felt they had to go. “Smiths Falls is special. We’ve been to a lot of different places,… and [the Town] has been tremendous to our family.”

He grinned and laughed. “I’m like a burning hemorroid, hard to get rid of. I might bang on your doorstep in the future.

“It’s been an awesome three years.”
