*UPDATE: This visit has been postponed. The Lieutenant Governor is will be attending the full honour funeral of the fallen firefighter in Kingston. Details of the new date will be shared when it’s known.*

The Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell will be visiting the Smiths Falls site of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital on Saturday, July 23.

Dowdeswell will be meeting with hospital volunteer Lucie Bingley.

Bingley received the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for Youth Volunteer in June at a ceremony in Toronto. The medal honours youth between the ages of 15 and 24 who have given a large amount of time to a charitable or not-for-profit organization. Bingley can often be found supporting the dialysis and laboratory departments with activities and events or offering a kind word or smile to any visitor, patient or hospital team member.

Bingley joined the hospital through St. John Catholic High School co-operative education program and continued to volunteer and assist both areas once her co-op placement concluded and regularly volunteers four to five days a week. She has also recently completed the recreation therapy program at Canadore College in North Bay.

Her Honour was intrigued by Bingley and has requested a site tour and hospital visit with Bingley as her guide, as she will already be in the area on other business.
