On January 7, 2018 at approximately 1 a.m. police were called to a business on Center Street for a reported customer who failed to pay his outstanding bill. Investigation revealed that a 44 year old male suspect had left without paying for his order. Police located and stopped the suspect a short time later, operating a vehicle on Highway 15 south. The suspect was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Police administered an alcohol screening device on the suspect and it resulted in a “fail” reading. The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest for having more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.

Police transported the suspect to the Smiths Falls Police Service where he refused to provide a breath sample to a qualified breath technician. As a result the suspect had his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.

The suspect was later released by police by way of a promise to appear in court and is charged with one count of failing to provide a breath sample.
