Marine fatality at Rideau Ferry Regatta

(Drummond-North Elmsley Township) On August 19, 2017, at approximately 2:00 pm, officers from the Ontario Provinicial Police, Lanark County detachment responded to a report of a marine collision that occurred during the Rideau Ferry Regatta in Rideau Ferry.

Investigation at this time indicates that a marine vessel which was involved in a scheduled race, became airborne and the operator to be ejected from the vessel.

The operator, a 69 year old male from Lakeville, Minnesota, was transported to hosptial with life threatening injury by Lanark County paramedics and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

A post mortem will be taking place at Ottawa Hospital, with a date to be determined. The identity of the male is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

This investigation is in its early stages and an update will be issued when confirmed and accurate information becomes available.
