Professional Life

I have enjoyed a fire Service career spanning 39 years, 34 years with the Ottawa Fire Department and five years as Chief of the Merrickville Fire Department.

Volunteer Service

I was an elected board member of the Ottawa Fire Fighters’ Credit Union (now Frontline Credit Union) from 1982 to 2008 where I held a variety of positions including President of the Board of Directors. I also served as a volunteer fire fighter with the Merrickville Fire Department from 1988 to 2000 where I held the rank of Captain and Training Officer.

My wife Ann and I and have lived in the village of Merrickville since 1985.

Some of the issues facing our Municipality are the need to develop and follow proper policies and procedures, improving communications with our staff and residents, and following the Strategic Plan that has been developed.

If elected I will make communications within the municipality a top priority. All staff should be encouraged to identify both risks and areas where efficiencies can be found and report them through the chain of command.  As well staff should be aware of what is going on in their department and in the municipality as a whole. They are the first point of contact for many taxpayers and staff need to be able to provide accurate information to members of the public or to direct them to the proper staff person.

As Fire Chief I learned valuable lessons from public consultation.  Our previous council has gone through the Strategic Planning process and learned a great deal about our citizens expectations.  It will be up to us as council members to follow the strategic plan and to budget for changes as funds permit.
