Members of the Ontario Provincial Police in Leeds County are issuing a plea for residents to be mindful of consequences surrounding their habits.
On April 22, 2018 at about 1:00 P.M., officers of the Leeds County OPP Detachment and Fire Services were called to an out of control grass fire on Mother Barnes Road in Rideau Lakes Township.
Investigation revealed that a man was changing a gas tank, lit a cigarette and then discarded a match into the bush.
Leeds OPP Operations Manager Staff Sergeant Josh Kingsley reminds residents, ‘The ground may still be wet underneath but the debris on top is dry providing fuel for fire. A careless act by one person may have dire consequences for others, including the firefighters and other emergency responders who risk their lives at fires.”
The investigation continues.
