Developer Wit Lewandowski and Dr. Neel Chadha sat through Perth council on Tuesday, Feb. 20 to hear for themselves if the site plan application for 240 Gore Street, Phase 1 – Lanark Lifestyles Retirement Community – was passed. It was, with much favour.
Councillor Jim Boldt commented that in the time he has been a member of council this is the largest undertaking in town. “I’m thrilled. I’m looking forward to the ground breaking.”
Lewandowski, president of Innovative Developments, was invited to address council. Dr. Chadha, owner and president of Lanark Lifestyles let Lewandowski do the talking.
“The ground-breaking ceremony is scheduled for March 17, the latest April 1. All the financing is in place,” he grinned. “Phase 1 is expected to be ready in the fall of 2019, possibly the end [of the year]. If all goes well, Phase 2 will follow as quickly as we can lease up.”
“We’re not large but we’re stable,” he added. “There are not a lot of places like this in Ontario. We’re unique — with the apartment complex attached to the retirement home. We have the amenities of a retirement home in an apartment.”
Mayor Fenik described it as “longevity of independence for elders.”
The site plan control agreement motion was passed unanimously.
