Smiths Falls will apply for an additional $1.2 million in provincial infrastructure funding to continue rehabilitation work on three Beckwith Street bridges.

Troy Dunlop, the town’s director of public works and utilities, advised that the funding was available through the Ministry of Transportation’s Connecting Links Program for 2017-18.

Council voted in late 2016 to apply for $1.5 million under the same program to make improvements to three sections of bridge along Beckwith Street, and received 90 per cent, $1,216,350 of the cost of the project.

The provincial government announced the launch of the Connecting Links Program in June of 2016, making available up to $25 million for municipal projects to build and repair roads, bridges, and related connecting link infrastructure.

A second round of funding for the same program was recently announced.
