Smiths Falls town council has allocated all of the town’s $50,000 in Community Improvement Plan (CIP) funding for 2016, after approving grants for three local properties at a regular meeting on Dec. 5.

Council has approved $20,000 for each of two applications from Parkview Homes to renovate properties on Russell Street, and a further $12,350 for improvements to the café at Davidson’s Courtyard, also on Russell Street.

The $20,000 allocated to 4-6 Russell St. East, a vacant property next to Coffee Culture formerly occupied by Bro’s Pizza, will be used for interior renovations. The second $20,000 grant will be used for interior renovations at 1-5 Russell St. East, known as the Justus Building. The laundromat on the ground floor of the building will be retrofitted and restored.

Scott Taylor and Lyne Houle will receive $12,350 to restore the brick façade at Davidson’s Courtyard, 7 Russell St. West, and to renovate and upgrade the location of the former 7 West Café, Councillor Lorraine Allen informed councillors at the Dec. 5 meeting.
