Smiths Falls mayor announces staffing changes

Former Smiths Falls Fire Chief Norman Beauchamp assumed new duties as chief of the City of Timmins department Monday, Oct. 16, announced Smiths Falls Mayor Shawn Pankow.

Beauchamp’s last day as chief in Smiths Falls was Friday, Oct. 13, Pankow advised fellow councillors at an Oct. 16 meeting.

Pankow also announced that senior equipment operator Doug South will retire effective Oct. 20, after 37 years working for the town. Also retiring, as of Oct. 27, is Linda Bennett, a town employee since 2010. Bennett worked as a support clerk for the planning department before moving to the finance department.

A new finance clerk, Vickie Thompson, started Oct. 16.

Pankow concluded his announcements on staffing by presenting a membership service award to Deputy Clerk Nadine Bennett, in recognition of her 10 years of service to the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers.

Later in the Oct. 16 council meeting, Councillor Chris Cummings reported on behalf of the Police Services Board that Sergeant Kourtney Droeske will retire at the end of October after 40 years with the Smiths Falls Police Service.
