Judy Farrell Municipal Election Candidate Profile
Name: Judy Farrell
Municipality: Tay Valley Township
Position sought: Bathurst Ward Councillor
Are you currently retired or working (what industry): My husband and I run a successful beef farm, a maple syrup business and a 113 unit mini storage. I also drive a school bus and this is my 44th year, so I guess you could say, I am still working. I do like to keep busy.
Former elected positions/terms if applicable: I have been a councilor for one term in Burgess Ward of TVT
Community volunteer experience (service clubs, local committees, fundraising, etc): I was a 4-H leader for 5 years (also took 18 clubs). I am on the St. Bridgets parish council. I canvas for the cancer society. I volunteer for the church functions and cook for the annual fundraisers.
Please list the top three issues facing your municipality and its residents that you would like to tackle in the upcoming council term:
(A) The #1 issue facing TVT is the lack of transparency and openness. We need to stop keeping secrets from the taxpayers and have all meetings recorded so the public can listen to them on our website.
(B) We need to make the planning and building process less difficult to our potential residents and businesses. People do not want to build in our twp because of the hoops they must jump through to do a project. We have to start working WITH people instead of AGAINST THEM!!
(C) We need to be more accountable and make sure we work within our budget. We need to cut costs by sharing services with other municipalities and stop over spending.
Do you own property or operate a business in the community you are seeking election in? We run a beef farm and maple syrup business in Tay Valley. We also own a cottage on Bennett Lake. My husband and I were born and raised here and we raised 4 children here. Tay Valley is very important to me and my family but there needs to be change. Council needs to start running the Twp as a successful business – that is what our job is as your elected representative and I look forward to the challenge as your Deputy Reeve for the next 4 year term. Thank you, Judy Farrell
