Series of arrests in Smiths Falls: Impaired driver, robbery and violence charges

9-1-1 call results in arrest of impaired driver

On September 3rd, 2025 Smiths Falls Police Service received a 9-1-1 call alerting to a possible impaired driver. Members responded to the area and located the vehicle at a local restaurant. The driver failed the roadside ASD (approved screening device) and was placed under arrest.

As a result of the investigation, 57 year old Janice VAN-HORIK stands charged with operation while impaired (x1) and operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration over 80mg (x1). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Additional charges laid after arrest for robbery

On September 3rd, 2025 Smiths Falls Police located a wanted suspect in the downtown core. The suspect was wanted from a August 22nd robbery investigation that occurred at a local grocery store. The suspect was arrested by officers and incident to arrest was found to also be in possession of suspected cocaine.

As a result of the investigations, 38 year old Rochelle NIXON of Toledo stands charged with robbery with violence (x1) and possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (x2). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Smiths Falls Police receive multiple calls for aggressive male at the hospital

On September 4th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police received multiple calls alerting of an aggressive person causing a disturbance inside the hospital. Members of the Smiths Falls Police responded immediately and commenced the investigation.

As a result of the investigation 33 year old Jordan HENDERSON of Smiths Falls stands charged with causing a disturbance (x1), mischief (x1), theft under $5000 (x1), resist peace officer (x2), breach of recognizance (x1), failing to comply with their probation order (x1) and multiple provincial offences. The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Wanted male facing intimate partner violence charges

On September 5th, 2025 members of Smiths Falls Police successfully located and arrested a wanted suspect who had a warrant for multiple IPV related offences.

As a result of the investigation a 44 year old male from Smiths Falls stands charged with assault (x1), Mischief under $5000 (x1), uttering threats (x1), failing to comply with bail release order (x1) and failing to comply with their probation order (x2). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Disturbance in residence leads to arrest

On September 7th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police received a report of a disturbance in a local residence. Members responded to the area to commence an investigation.

As a result of the investigation, 36 year old Jerred FITCHETT stand charged with assault (x1), mischief under $5000 (x1), uttering threats (x1), and failing to comply with release order (x2). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Suspect arrested after foot pursuit

On September 9th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police were notified of a theft that occurred from a local convenience store. Members commenced an investigation into the matter and were able to identify the suspect through video surveillance.

On September 10th, 2025 members of Smiths Falls Police were on proactive patrol and observed the wanted suspect. The suspect fled from police and a foot pursuit was commenced. The suspect was taken into custody shortly after without further incident.

As a result of the investigation, 30 year old Mathew DI NELLE-DOWDALL of Smiths Falls stands charged with theft under $5000 (x1), and failing to comply with their probation order (x3). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Intimate partner violence investigation leads to multiple charges

On September 9th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police received a call for an intimate partner violence dispute in progress. Members responded immediately to the area and commenced the investigation. One suspect was taken into custody.

As a result of the investigation, a 33 year old male from Smiths Falls stands charged with obstruct peace officer (x1), mischief (x1), and failing to comply with probation order (x2). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Assault charges laid in intimate partner violence investigation

On September 9th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police commenced an intimate partner violence investigation after receiving information of an assault that occurred.

As a result of the investigation, a 59 year old male was arrested. The accused stands charged with assault (x2) and mischief under $5000 (x1). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Suspect arrested after breach of conditional sentence order

On September 13th, 2025 a member of Smiths Falls Police was on proactive control and located a suspect known to police. The suspect was wanted for breaching their conditional sentence order.

40 year old Brandee DOUGHERTY of Smiths Falls was arrested without incident. The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
