An amended smoking and vaping bylaw was discussed Monday at Committee of the Whole. Two weeks ago, when the proposed bylaw was first brought to committee, councillors requested some amendments; staff returned the bylaw to committee of the whole Monday with those amendments.

They included: specifying ‘park’ to ensure no confusion with recreational facilities/sports fields or public areas; adding ‘outdoor meeting area’ for those areas under Town’s control i.e. future Town Square; within 9 metres of any entrance or exit of a municipal building; within 3 metres of any entrance or exit of an enclosed workplace or enclosed public place i.e. at doors of retail store, restaurant, bank etc.

The bylaw will replace four current bylaws to include cannabis and vaping and applies to both recreational and medicinal cannabis use.

There was little discussion and a quick agreement to the amendment to the smoking and vaping bylaw. The bylaw was passed at council later in the evening.
