July 11th, a large group of community volunteers were treated to an entertaining and motivational evening of guest speakers and presentations on the history of Carleton Place in the town hall’s upper auditorium. CP’s 200th Anniversary committee and council hosted this major kick-off to the town’s birthday celebrations occurring this year. They heard from Montague Reeve Bill Dobson who generously brought a major collection of his historical artifacts to display. He discussed how several of the key items related to the development of Carleton Place.  Councilor Linda Seccaspina delivered a heartfelt recollection of leading and volunteering residents of the town.

Carleton Place and Beckwith Heritage Museum’s Jennifer Irwin provided a pictorial history of the town covering its birth with settlements by its two founding families through to current times.   Local author Natasha Peterson closed the evening with a beautiful original poem celebrating the town’s anniversary.
