At the end of regular Carleton Place Council committee meetings on Feb 20, council went into a special session to ratify their decision to dock Mayor Louis Antonakos 270 days of pay and the remainder of his discretionary fund for 2018.

This special meeting was made possible by a petition to the town clerk from a majority of council. Antonakos chaired the single agenda-item meeting but abstained from voting on the motion. In a recorded vote, all members of council and the Deputy Mayor Jerry Flynn supported the motion. The public gallery was full but subdued with few audible comments at the results.

Earlier in the evening Antonakos tried to introduce a motion during the Community Issues Committee meeting to call for a provincial inquiry into the actions of the integrity commissioner and council to no avail.
