Bev Holmes Municipal Election Candidate Profile

Name: Bev Holmes

Municipality: Mississippi Mills

Position Sought: Councillor for Ramsay Ward

Currently Retired or Working (where?): I am a Registered Nurse, own and operate a farm in Ramsay Ward.

Former Elected Positions/Terms if applicable: This is the first time I have sought an elected seat at any level of government.

Community volunteer experience (service clubs, local committees, fundraising, etc): I am a member of the Community Living Association.

Top 3 issues facing your municipality and its residents that council has control or major influence over:

Proliferation of rules, regulations and bylaws which have taken away common sense.

The Community Official plan (COP).

Control of wild parsnip and other noxious weeds along roadsides.

Your solutions/approach to those 3 issues:

My philosophy is that we do not dwell on what is not working well but how it can be improved on.

The official plan is at the county level and needs to be brought back for additional consultation.
The wild parsnip problem needs to have an adequate budget and plan, utilizing Best Practice guidelines, to support ridding Mississippi Mills of this dangerous weed.

Finally the performance of the municipality, including council members, needs to be evaluated using a “Balanced Report Card” approach. This is a tool used to allow the public to evaluate their municipal government’s performance. The residents of Mississippi Mills deserve no less!

Do you own (or have a stake in) or operate a commercial/industrial business in your municipality? (Including vacant development lands or rental units): No I do not.
