Top 3 issues facing your municipality and its residents that council has control or major influence over:
Rehabilitation of the Bridge St. bridge.
Growing our town responsibly – maintaining our small town feel and ensuring good corporate governance.
Affordable housing for those in need
Your solutions/approach to those 3 issues:
Council will need to focus on obtaining as much provincial funding for this large project in order to keep the costs to residents down. Furthermore, a focus on how we can minimize the disruption to our residents and the business community will be imperative.
Growth is inevitable. We must be diligent in listening to our residents and ensuring their voices are heard where local development is proposed. We must be proactive in maintaining our local heritage and neighbourly feel to our communities. We must plan carefully to ensure our taxes are kept to a minimum while keeping reserves at reasonable levels and plan for future significant projects and expenditures – all in keeping with our community vision and official plan.
There is an incredible lack of affordable housing in Carleton Place. Our council will need to work with the county and the province to secure funding for affordable housing for our seniors and vulnerable citizens. We need to explore viable options that are perhaps non-traditional to fill the gap and help those in need.
Do you own (or have a stake in) or operate a commercial/industrial business in your municipality? (Including vacant development lands or rental units): No – but working in a financial institution, I am very aware of the needs of small businesses. I am eager to work with our local BIA, Chamber of Commerce and the business community to look for ways we can develop, encourage and attract new businesses to Carleton Place
