Cooler November weather couldn’t keep veterans from marching, nor residents from attending this year’s Remembrance Day services at the cenotaph in Carleton Place. Well over 1,000 were standing solemnly while uniformed veterans and members of the Royal Canadian Legion took their lead in honouring those who defended our freedoms at every corner of the globe. The Carleton Place Community Band and the Carleton Place Town Singers provided music to accompany the prayers and thoughts of those who sacrificed much.
The morning’s event began with a parade to the cenotaph at the public library’s expansive and well-tended lawns where onlookers filled sidewalks and other available spaces to overflowing. At the end of the wreath-laying portion of the day, children were invited to place their poppies at the base of the monument.
