At the October 8th meeting of Carleton Place council, Mayor Doug Black welcomed the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Maeng-ho Shin and members of his staff as they finished off their Korea in Carleton Place Day by taking in on a session of municipal government.  His Excellency had nothing but praise for the town commenting on its beauty and warmth as well as recognizing the sacrifice that many of its residents made in his country during the Korean War.  He spoke of his government’s recent efforts to move towards a complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and was appreciative of Canadian support over the many years that the two countries have enjoyed close bonds.

Deputy Mayor Sean Redmond was proud to point out the military roll of honour hanging in council chambers to the Korean contingent that listed those residents who served in the 1950s’ conflict and brought medals from his own family to allow the ambassador and his staff to learn more about local veterans’ achievements.
