Hometown News Staff

On Friday, Feb. 2 police were called to Carleton Place Town Hall just after noon and news quickly spread that an incident between Mayor Louis Antonakos and Councillor Doug Black had happened and that Black had been charged with assault.

Today, Black released this statement:

To the residents of Carleton Place:

On the advice of my lawyer Alex Ferguson, my only comment with respect to the
assault charge against me is that I am innocent.

I apologize for this distraction and the negative publicity it has brought to our community. This is new territory for me and my family and I wish to thank the many who have reached out.

There has been an outpouring of support and encouragement and for this, I am sincerely grateful.

As many of you know, I have long ago established both my love for Carleton Place and my commitment to making our town the best it can be.

Moving forward, I will continue to represent the interests of our community to the best of my ability. I will not be making any further comments on the matter.

Thank You,
Doug Black

Hi Doug ; You are the better man !!! keep your head up when you are out and about .Remember you and we ,as a community are dealing with an arrogant ,abusive bully . I know many people in this town , being a true local ,born and raised here ,most are very unhappy with the so called mayor and his embarrassing behavior.

    I support you
