Drunk driver charged after collision with ambulance in Port Elmsley

Officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged the driver of a car that collided with an ambulance on Highway 43 in Port Elmsley, Drummond, North Elmsley Township.

OPP were called to Hwy 43 and Station Road at 03:31 am on Saturday, Feb.1. An investigation revealed that a Buick car had struck an ambulance operated by the Lanark County Ambulance Service. Both vehicles had major damage but no one was injured.

Nicholas Cassell, 28, of South Elmsley is charged with the following:

  • One count driving a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood
  • One count of driving under suspension
  • One count novice driver with blood alcohol concentration above zero.

He was released and will appear at the Provincial Court in Perth.
