Mark it on your calendars! October is a busy month at the Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum. We have family-friendly events, ghost tours, haunted houses and more. For October the museum is open Wednesday, Friday – Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

October 5th – Apollo 11: The Quest for the Moon, presentation by Frank Hitchens

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landing at the Heritage House Museum during Space Week on October 5th. Astronomer, broadcaster, and public speaker Frank Hitchens will be presenting on Apollo 11 and the quest for the moon. The presentation will begin at 7 p.m. and the cost is $10 per person ($5 for Museum or Historical Society members). If it is a clear evening Frank will be bringing his telescope to give viewers a look at the moon.

October 10th and 17th –  Candlelit Ghost Walks

Get scared this October with the return of Ghost Walks at the museum. From 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., costumed guides will take groups through candlelit period rooms. This special tour will explore oral traditions and mysterious happenings of the Smiths Falls’ area and the museum. The cost is $10 per adult and $5 per child (12 and under). Private tours are also available throughout the month by appointment.

October 12 – Thanksgiving Train Rides at the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario

The Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario welcomes you aboard for the Museum’s annual closing weekend Thanksgiving train rides. This family friendly event will host talented musician Ken Ramsden alongside our train rides and activities. The train runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. October 12th, 2019. The train departs every half hour starting at 11 a.m. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For details call: 613-283-5696. The museum closes October 13th 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

October 25th and 26th – Haunted Heritage House

Join the museum for your spookiest tour of the Smiths Falls Heritage House yet…if you dare. We’ll hand you a flashlight and you will tour through the rooms and corridors of our 1860’s home in the dark. Join us after your tour for some Halloween treats, cotton candy, caramel apples, and homemade apple cider. From 6 p.m. to 6: 45 p.m. on both dates, experience a family-friendly walk through haunted house with no jump scares. From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. enter for full-fright mode. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for ages 15 and under. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.

October 26th – Fall Fun Day: Smiths Falls Turkey Fair Revamped

Join the museum for its Fall Fun Day from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.! Hop on a horse drawn wagon ride for just $3 per person! Tour through the museum by admission by donation, take a walk to see carved pumpkins and vote on your favourite one, and warm your hands by a fire outside. There will be scavenger hunts, lawn games, arts and crafts and more! Hot apple cider, cookies, pie, and caramel apples will be available for purchase.

October 31st – Halloween

The Heritage House Museum will be open Halloween night until 8:00 pm. Come on by to trick or treat for some candy and see our Halloween decorations. The Jack-O-Lanterns from the Fall Fun Day will be out for viewing from October 25th to 31st.
