The Smiths Falls Curling Club was bustling this weekend, as it hosted the Homan/Hogan Cash Spiel.
This is the fourth annual bonspiel fundraiser, sponsored by Andress’ Independent, for Spinal Cord Injury Ontario (SCI Ontario). Sixteen teams entered the competition, which included both friendly and competitive curlers.
A silent auction was also held for many great prizes donated by local retailers and citizens.
Bryce Donald, a regional services coordinator with SCI Ontario, thanked the event organizers, volunteers, and competitors, noting that the proceeds from this fundraiser go toward peer support programs for those with spinal cord injuries in the province.
Chris Bourne, also with SCI Ontario, shared that the organization has had no increase in funding for the past five years, so private fundraising events such as these make a massive difference in the quality of care and service they are able to provide.
This weekend’s bonspiel raised $10,110.87. The event has raised over $33 000 since its inaugural bonspiel in 2015.
