Beckwith events

Home Alone Safety Course
Feb. 1, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Register at safetytreecanada.com. Is your child prepared to take the first steps towards staying home alone? The Home Alone Safety for Kids program helps children gain confidence and skills to stay at home alone successfully. This safety program is designed for children ages nine to 14. Safety and awareness are the common themes in this program. All information is current so it reflects what today’s children are facing when home alone.

Moonlight Ski and Skate
Saturday, Jan. 31, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Join the fun, free of charge, at Beckwith Park, 1319 9th Line. The Beckwith Youth Committee invites you to skate, ski, snowshoe or hike under the full moon and stay warm with hot apple cider and marshmallows by a roaring bonfire. 

Carleton Place events

Trivia Night at Foundry Coffee Bar
Monthly trivia with host Cody Wilby runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Foundry Coffee Bar, 122 Bridge St., Carleton Place, on Jan. 27, Feb. 24, March 31, April 28, May 26, June 30, July 28, Aug. 25, Sept. 29, Oct. 27, Nov. 24 and Dec. 29. Tickets are $20 plus tax and include a beverage.

Lanark Highlands events

Frosty Fling
Friday, Jan. 30 (7 p.m. festivities start) to Sunday, Feb. 1.
Lots to see and do for the whole family. See link above for lots of info on events, including movie night on Friday, scavenger hunt on Saturday, along with lunch with Frosty, arts and crafts and a spaghetti dinner, capped by a skating carnival from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, kids can skate with Frosty from 11 to noon, enjoy a Civitan lunch, with the outdoor carnival happening from 1 to 3 p.m. 

Mississippi Mills events

Camp Day at the Mill of Kintail
Jan. 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for kids ages six to 12. Join the fun for an educational PA day with engaging and informative activities that touch on the importance of wetlands, watershed health and wildlife. 

Montague events

Winterfest
Jan. 29 through Feb. 1. Lots going on this weekend in Montague Township. Start with Thursday night darts with the fire department at the Rosedale Hall; Friday, kids’ glow dance party (JK to Gr. 8), Saturday, winter activities from 11 a.m. at the park; Yuk Yuk’s comedy show, 8 p.m. $25 admission; Sunday, stretch yoga, 9 a.m. and family pj movie matinee, 2 p.m., both at the Rosedale Hall, free of charge. Adult Prom at Code’s Mill
Friday, Jan. 30, 7 p.m., it’s a glamorous night out in support of PDCI Prom. Every ticket helps make prom unforgettable for local students, so you can dance the night away knowing it’s all for a great cause. This Snowy Soiree is a semi-formal. 

Smiths Falls events

Free Community Meal
Thursday, Jan. 29, at the Lions Hall, 19 Abbott St., doors open at 11 a.m.; dine in only. Hosted by the Smiths Falls Lions Club.

Veterans’ Breakfast at the Legion
Friday, Jan. 30, 10 a.m. to noon. Open to active and retired military and RCMP families. Membership not required. 11 Main St. E. 

Tim Hortons Donuts for Special Olympics
Friday, Jan. 30, all day at participating Tim Hortons restaurants with 100 per cent of the proceeds supporting local programs and athletes. 

Comedy Night at the Tap Room
Saturday, Jan. 30, 8 to 10 p.m. A lineup of pro comedians for a $12 charge, at 275 Brockville St. at the Settlers Ridge Mall. 

Toledo events

Country Dance
Sunday, Feb. 1, 1 p.m. Toledo Royal Canadian Legion. Music 2 to 5 p.m., dinner 5 p.m., entertainers, cash bar, admission is $25. 

Westport events

Chris Murphy, Live at The Cove Inn
Friday, Jan. 30, 5 to 8 p.m., enjoy the sounds of the East Coast folk master, Chris Murphy. 

Westport Senior Living Fundraiser
Saturday, Jan. 31, 6 to 10 p.m.
; Live at The Cove Inn, Neighbours helping neighbours age well at home. Music by local favourites, Henry Norwood and Shawn McCullough. Cover is $20 and goes to the cause and great music, along with 50/50 draw and great food off the menu. 

Sunday with Eric and Meghan
Sunday, Feb. 1, 5 to 8 p.m.
Live at The Cove Inn, listen to the acoustic folk sounds of fiddle and guitar.
