Lanark OPP charge Mississippi Mills man with attempted murder

On September 20, 2017 at approximately 12:39 a.m., officers with the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence in Mississippi Mills (Almonte). 

The investigation found that an altercation had taken place at a residence and a female had been seriously assaulted.

A 73-year-old male from the Municipality of Mississippi Mills, Ontario was arrested and is charged with:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder
  • Uttering Threats
  • Overcome resistance by choking, suffocating or strangling another person


The accused was remanded in custody until a bail hearing September 22, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth, Ontario.  His name is being withheld in order to protect the identity of the victim.

The victim was treated at hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
