Sunday afternoons are for coffee and cake at grandma’s. Maybe that’s what the Bears were already thinking about, for their performance on ice during the game against the Brockville Braves wasn’t overly convincing, culminating in a disappointing 1-4 loss.
The first period saw no scoring by either team, even though the Braves outshot the Bears 10 to 5.
Things started to change during the second period. But while the Bears outshot Brockville 15 to 5 and often holding a powerplay advantage, it was the Braves Colin Stacey who put his team to the lead at 12:58.
Ryan Gillespie scored next early into the third period at 3:51. Colin Stacey netted his second goal of the game shortly thereafter at the 7:27 mark, bringing the Braves to a comfortable 3:0 lead. The Bears finally got a break with a score by Thomas Quick at 18:12, assisted by Theo Todd and Bruce Coltart. However the last ditch effort bringing another player onto the ice for the goalie only resulted in Troy Bowditch flinging his puck into the empty net at 18:54 of the Bears for the 4:1 final in favour of the Braves.
Colin Stacey (BRO) received First Star of the game, Troy Bowditch (BRO) earned Second Star, and the Bear’s Thomas Quick was awarded Third Star.
The next home game will be played at the usual Friday night spot at 7:30pm on November 1st.
