Monica Viola is one of only nine Canadians tapped for prestigious exhibition in the city of the arts, Florence Italy.
The Florence Biennale, is an international exhibition of contemporary art that happens every two years in Florence, Italy. It is taking place from Oct. 6 to Oct. 15 this year.
The exhibition was founded in the early 1990’s and every two years since, thousands of artists from over 100 countries have had their work showcased at this extraordinary event.
This year’s edition will be exhibiting the work of over 400 artists from over 70 countries. This prestigious exhibition gives artists international exposure.
In the fall of 2016 Monica Viola, at the recommendation of a fellow artist that has exhibited at the Biennale and found great success, suggested that she should apply. She applied and based on the excellent quality of her artwork, she was approved and then invited to participate in the 2017 edition.
Viola accepted the invitation, knowing it would be an honour to represent Canada at such a prestigious art show.
Currently, Viola sells and displays her work from her own gallery called MonSky Creations in Merrickville. Her artwork is collected around the globe. She is a truly international artist and she sees this exhibition as a chance to greatly extend her reach to new levels with galleries, and art collectors from around the world.
“Through my art, I continue to be playful, marrying new ideas and techniques to my artistic growth. My work is not a complete circle, but a joyous evolution of ideas.”
As an artist, Viola works in several different mediums. Although clay and glass are her preferred modes of artistic expression at this time, she is also a proficient painter and fabric artist. Her ideas and inspiration determine her current method of creation to create pieces that art unique and one-of-a-kind. Changing mediums is like opening a new door of fresh, new creative ideas.
For the Florence Biennale, Monica has chosen to exhibit 3 works of her ceramic art. Inspired by dreams, fantasy, surrealism and classical art, these works give an insight into her creative mind that has been inspired by a lifelong love of art history and art appreciation.
The following three pieces will be exhibited at the 2017 Florence Biennale.
As an artist, it will be a truly inspirational and enlightening experience to exhibit in such a historic city amongst some of the world’s finest contemporary artists.
If you want to help and support Viola in this exhibition, she has created a Indiegogo fundraising page.
