Bonnie Leach Municipal Election Candidate Profile

Name: Bonnie (Burson) Leach

Municipality: Montague Township

Position Sought: Councillor

Currently Retired or Working (where?): Working in insurance.

Former Elected Positions/Terms if applicable:  I served two terms on council from 2006 to 2014.

Community volunteer experience (service clubs, local committees, fundraising, etc): I have held many positions while part of the Montague Parks and Recreations Committee. I have been a 4H leader, and was an active member of Junior Farmers, as well as volunteering at numerous schools.

Top 3 issues facing your municipality and its residents that council has control or major influence over: The top three issues facing Montague Township are that the water agreement with Smiths Falls is not being adhered to and needs to be addressed as nothing has happened in recent years. Road maintenance and updates is and will always be on the forefront as well as some recreational activities within the township and our cost sharing agreement with Smiths Falls for recreation.

Your solutions/approach to those 3 issues: Continue a positive environment between council and our roads department. Our cost sharing agreement with Smiths Falls should be a user pay system not MPAC assessment.

Do you own (or have a stake in) or operate a commercial/industrial business in your municipality? (Including vacant development lands or rental units): I currently reside on my family farm, which as been in the Leach name since the 1860’s. I operate my business from my home.
