Vince Carroll Municipal Election Candidate Profile

Name: Vince Carroll

Municipality: Montague Township

Position Sought: Deputy Reeve

Currently Retired or Working (where?): Presently serving my second full-term as township councilor. I am also employed in the agriculture industry.

Former Elected Positions/Terms if applicable: I have served as a councillor in Montague Township since 2010.

Community volunteer experience (service clubs, local committees, fundraising, etc): I have served on the Lanark County trails committee, Lombardy Fair (demolition derby judge), Knights of Columbus, Lanark County Beef Farmers director.

Top 3 issues facing your municipality and its residents that council has control or major influence over: An improved water/waste water contract with Smiths Falls for Atironto residents, Changing the design of the recreation agreement back to usage from MPAC property assessment, and the development of a multi-use indoor facility for Montague residents and surrounding area.

Your solutions/approach to those 3 issues:

Atironto: I feel Montague needs to have Smiths Falls realize that shared services are the future of both municipalities to survive. Another option would be a communal well for the residents of Atironto.

Recreation: the use of MPAC being used as the magic way to extract money from municipalities is not fair since not all residents use the ice or walking track. The program needs to go back to usage.

Indoor multi use facility: I see this built on our acreage next to Montague School. Yes, it will be expensive to build, but as people continue to move to our township we need a major structure to attract new families moving in. Also a play structure in a park setting to be built next to Rosedale Hall.

Do you own (or have a stake in) or operate a commercial/industrial business in your municipality? (Including vacant development lands or rental units): I own land in Montague Township and business farming property as well.
