Perth Committee of the Whole passed a motion on Tuesday, Jan. 17 to enter into a formula-based agreement to receive total funding of $556,360 over the next three years.

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) administers the provincial funding to municipalities under the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund program. This year the town will receive $121,380. Lang Britchford, director of corporate services, says the money will be used “to help pay for a portion of the Craig Street bridge.”

In 2018 the town will receive $171,846; in 2019 the amount will be $263,134. The fund was created to help small communities with core infrastructure needs, like roads, bridges, water and wastewater. The fund helps strengthen municipal asset management practices, and provides long-term financial support for the rehabilitation and repair of core infrastructure.
