The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital (PSFDH) has received a report card that the community can be very proud of. We are pleased to announce that PSFDH has achieved “Accreditation with Exemplary Standing”, the highest level of excellence award, based on the recent on-site survey by Accreditation Canada.
Accreditation Canada’s survey, conducted every four years, is a thorough review of all areas and departments of PSFDH involving not only staff members and physicians, but our patient and family advisors, community partners, volunteers and Board members, all of whom are integral to the ongoing success of the hospital.
During the survey period the surveyors also consulted with numerous patients and family members in coming to their overall assessment.
This recognition by Accreditation Canada affirms PSFDH’s commitment to providing the highest quality patient- and family-centered health care, now and in the future. We can all be proud of this organization at the heart of our community.
The three-day onsite survey took place the week of Oct. 16, 2017 during which the hospital’s performance was evaluated against national criteria that validate excellence. The surveyors assessed close to 2,000 required organizational practices and standards.
“The Accreditation Canada surveyors indicated to us at the conclusion of our survey that we share the distinction of achieving such a near perfect score with very few other organizations in Canada,” noted Dr. Kate Stolee, Chief of Staff.
“They were particularly impressed with our commitment to patient and family centered care. This philosophy really comes to life through our staff, physicians and our volunteers as well. The surveyors saw our commitment to continuous improvement in action and I believe that was a huge factor in achieving such an amazing result,” said Bev McFarlane, President & CEO. McFarlane also credits everyone at PSFDH. “It is very much a shared success,” she stated.
“The Board of Directors has always been extremely proud of this organization, and particularly of the individuals contributing to its success and it was incredibly heartwarming to hear and see how the experts could see it especially given their extensive experience,” said Donna Howard, Chair, Hospital Board of Directors.
