There’s still hockey action going on in Smiths Falls. The Smiths Falls Settlers have reached the playoffs in the CPJHL (Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League) and played the Ottawa EOHA this weekend at the Community Center in a Best-Of series of games. The Settlers are a fairly new Smiths Falls based team, evolving from the Glengarry Highlanders. People may remember them from the last Santa Claus Parade, where they won Best Overall Entry for their float.
The Settlers initiated scoring during the Friday night game with an unassisted goal by Raymond Jolly early in the first period. EOHAs Connor Drost leveled the score with a goal three minutes before the end of the period.
Drost then brought the EOHA to a lead with the only score in the second period.
The Settlers catched up early in the third period with a score by Shonwahnokon Thompson, assisted by Joe Palermo and Adam Porter. But the Settles got to feel EOHAs menace Connor Drost soon thereafter, when he brought his team to a lead again with his third score of the game. It was then up to Ollie Berndtsson to balance the scoreboard for the Settlers, with the assist credited to Felix Stephen).
Reilly Degray then settled the game in favour of the Settlers with a score 1.5 minutes into overtime.
First Star of the game went to Reilly Degray, Second Star went to Connor Drost (EOHA), and Third Star went to Ollie Berndtsson.
