Smiths Falls Bears score four unanswered goals to defeat the Raiders Friday night
SMITHS FALLS — The Smiths Falls Bears were back in action on home ice Friday night, hosting the Nepean Raiders and skating to a 4–1 victory.
Newly acquired goaltender Logan Heideman got the start between the pipes for Smiths Falls.
A powerplay opportunity late in the first period gave Nicholas Larkin the chance to open the scoring, and he capitalized with a goal at the 17:58 mark. Tyson Parker and Carter Beauchesne picked up the assists.
Nepean responded at 8:38 of the second period, with Tyler Smith tying the game. Smiths Falls regained the lead at 16:34 when Carter Beauchesne, assisted by Luka Benoit and Tyson Parker, sent the puck past Raiders goalie Evan Grant.
The third period continued in favour of the Bears. Caeden Heins added an early goal at 2:30, with assists from Marc Antoine Riopel and Gus Rabe, before Jackson Heron sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 17:33, assisted by Jacob Smith and Brayden Childerhose.
Smiths Falls outshot Nepean 41–25 in the contest.
Carter Beauchesne earned first star of the game, Nicholas Larkin was named second star, and Tyler Smith of the Raiders took third star.
With 47 points, the Bears sit second in their division, five points behind Kemptville, though the 73’s have played seven more games. Smiths Falls currently occupies fourth place overall.
In other Bears news, goaltender Brett Ruddy was named the CCHL’s second star for Week 18 of the current season.
