Smiths Falls Bears defeat the Ottawa Junior Senators on Friday before falling 2–1 to the Renfrew Wolves on Saturday
SMITHS FALLS — Results may vary, that could have been the motto of last week’s games, with two similar scorelines producing very different outcomes.
On Friday night, the Smiths Falls Bears hosted the Ottawa Junior Senators at the Den. Ottawa set the pace early with a powerplay goal by Ethan Lobe at 13:18 of the first period. The Bears answered in the second period, when Carter Beauchesne tied the game at 15:20, assisted by Luka Benoit and Tyson Parker.
The deciding goal came at 15:01 of the third period, when Marc Antoine Riopel found the back of the net. Davis Hails and Nicholas Larkin picked up the assists.
Smiths Falls secured the 2–1 win, holding a slight edge in shots on goal at 33–30. Marc Antoine Riopel earned first star, Carter Beauchesne was named second star, and Ottawa’s Ethan Lobe took third star.
On Saturday, the Bears hit the road to face the Renfrew Wolves, where the same 2–1 scoreline went the other way. Renfrew opened the scoring at 12:19 of the first period with a shorthanded goal by Bryce Rebertz.
Caeden Heins brought Smiths Falls back into the game at 10:47 of the second period, assisted by Gus Rabe and Brayden Childerhose. The tie was short-lived, however, as Renfrew regained the lead at 17:37 on a goal by John Collins-Williams. The third period saw no further scoring.
One of the notable aspects of the game was the shot total. Smiths Falls directed 46 shots on goal compared to 27 for Renfrew, but was unable to turn the advantage into a win.
First star went to John Collins-Williams (REN), second star to Bryce Rebertz (REN), and Caeden Heins earned third star.
With 51 points through 36 games, the Bears remain in second place in their division and sit fourth overall. Rockland leads the league with 76 points.
