Jay Brennan Municipal Election Candidate Profile

Name: Jay Brennan

Municipality: Smiths Falls

Position Sought: Councillor

Currently Retired or Working (where?): Former assistant to a federal member of Parliament and provincial cabinet minister. Former small business owner in Smiths Falls.

Former Elected Positions/Terms if applicable: Smiths Falls Councillor in 2010

Community volunteer experience (service clubs, local committees, fundraising, etc): Past president of the Smiths Falls Rotary, a Paul Harris Fellow, Smiths Falls Dog Park. Council Rep on the following Committees: Smiths Falls-Montague Airport Commission, Committee of Adjustment, Planning Advisory Committee, Heritage House Advisory Board, Evergreen Avenue Committee, Child Development Centre, and the Smiths Falls and District Arts and Culture Council

Top 3 issues facing your municipality and its residents that council has control or major influence over: Infrastructure maintenance and priorities, growth management, and downtown revitalization and Waterfront development.

Your solutions/approach to those 3 issues:

Our roads and yes our bridges are vital municipal assets. Through continued prudent financial planning and upper tier government support there is no reason why we cannot address what is most important to our taxpayers without raising taxes.

Growth: Council needs to ensure that it focuses on the things that make Smiths Falls such a great place to live. Investments in making sure our youth continue to be given the opportunity to thrive and our seniors receive the support they need are important.

Our downtown and waterfront are linked and we are well on are way to transforming both. With national and international attention on us, Council needs to stay focused and move forward on making the most of the downtown and waterfront, which includes ensuring Victoria Park remains a focal point.

Do you own (or have a stake in) or operate a commercial/industrial business in your municipality? (Including vacant development lands or rental units): Yes I own a home in Smiths Falls.

Hello Mr. Brennan, I read the article in the SF Record News. I was wondering if you had anything else to share about yourself which you would like people to know which wasn’t in this article. Sincerely, Suzanne
