The owners of a home at 57 Broadview Ave. East will be able to build a garage after all.

When the owners Gary Davis and E.Davies first approached the town of Smiths Falls in November seeking permission to buy a small strip of land next to the property to build a garage next to the house, they were told that the land had been set aside as parkland and wasn’t for sale.

Councillors asked town planner Nikki Dwyer to take another look at the situation and come up with a solution.

In a report prepared for a meeting of council’s Committee of the Whole on Jan. 23, Dwyer recommending that the town approve the sale of the strip of land for a price of $1 per square foot, for a total price of $2,002.

“It’s a win-win when we can work with our residents on an issue like this,” said Councillor Lorraine Allen. “We don’t want to be the bad guys.”
