Smiths Falls Police tackle vehicle theft, shoplifting and assault cases

Stolen vehicle recovered; charges laid

On April 6th, 2025 at 1:23 p.m. the Smiths Falls Police Service received a report of a stolen vehicle from a residence’s driveway. Members of Smiths Falls Police responded to the location to begin the investigation.

At 2:31 p.m. the Smiths Falls Police recovered the stolen vehicle and identified a suspect responsible for the theft. At 4:55 p.m. the Smiths Falls Police located the suspect exiting a business on Lombard Street. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

As a result of the investigation 26 year old Jesse FAVEL of Regina, Saskatchewan stands charged with theft of motor vehicle (x 1), possession of break in instruments (x 1), possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (x 1) and failing to comply with their undertaking (x 1). The accused was held in custody pending a bail court hearing.

Shoplifting investigation leads to arrest

On April 7th, 2025 the members of the Smiths Falls Police responded to a local downtown business for a report of a theft in progress. Members arrived on scene and began their investigation.

As a result of the investigation 34 year old, Aaron GILPIN of Montreal, Quebec was arrested at scene without incident. The accused stands charged with Theft under $5000 (x 3), failing to comply with probation order (x 4) and failing to comply with their release order (x 1). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Wanted male located on traffic stop

On Monday April 7th, 2025 at approximately 10:30 p.m. a member of the Smiths Falls Police Service initiated a traffic stop on McGill Street North in regards to highway traffic violations.

During the traffic investigation it was learned that the vehicle passenger had an outstanding warrant from a previous shoplift investigation. 41 year old Shawn CONNORS of Smiths Falls was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 (x 1). The accused was later released with conditions and scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

One arrested after intimate partner violence investigation

On April 1st, 2025 the Smiths Falls Police Service began an investigation into allegations of a breach of probation orders which were related to intimate partner violence charges. On April 10th, 2025 the 19 year old suspect from Smiths Falls was located and arrested without incident.

As a result of the investigation, the accused was charged with failing to comply with their probation order (x 2). The accused was held in custody pending a bail court hearing.

35 year old facing multiple charges in sexual assault investigation

On April 11th, 2025 the Smiths Falls Police Service made an arrest in relation to a sexual assault investigation.

As a result of the investigation a 35 year old male from Smiths Falls is facing multiple charges which include Sexual interference (x 2), Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age (x 2) and invitation to sexual touching on a person under 16 years of age (x 1). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.
