The Bears Den was the place to be Friday night, Dec. 8, in Smiths Falls. Bears fans were delivered a plush-filled, nail-biting extravaganza. This being the annual Teddy Bear toss game night, Brian Bygrave of the Bears triggered an avalanche of plush toys thrown into the rink by ecstatic fans when the first goal of the game was scored at the 6.59 mark.
The Kanata Lazers countered with two goals — one by William Brochu and one by Jack Quinn — within the first period.
Bygrave managed to even the game with another goal early on in the second period. Then it was Kanata’s turn to take the lead with a goal by Chad Merrell.
The Bears came back in the third period with Hayden Hart driving the puck past Kanata’s goalie much to the fans delight, and Kyle Dowdall sealed the game in favour of the Bears with the deciding goal at the 4.43 mark in overtime.
First star went to Bygrave, second star to Bennett Stockdale (Kanata), and third star to Dowdall.
