Tyson Parker lit the lamp in overtime to lift the Smiths Falls Jr. A Bears to a 5-4 overtime win in CCHL action Friday, Nov. 1 over the Ottawa Jr. Senators at home.

Parker scored his 9th and 10th goals of the season and assisted on one other marker as the Bears are holding tough to the top spot in the Robinson Division alongside the Kemptville 73’s with 18 points each. He claimed the first-star honours for his efforts.

Just 251 fans were in the stands to watch the home team take a 3-1 lead after the first period with goals from Caeden Heins, Kyle Dagg and Quinn Booth. Assists came from James, Chris Cardillo, Jackson Heron and Parker.

Replying for Ottawa was Antoine Demers.

Into the second, Parker notched his first of the game, assisted by James and Booth.

Thomas Barney scored Ottawa’s second goal with 16:02 showing as the period wound down with a 4-2 Smiths Falls lead. He picked up the game’s second star nod.

Into the final period, things got spicey as Ottawa scored twice to tie the game and force the overtime stanza. Wyston Iserhoff and Matthew Mazzott did the damage for the visitors.

With 4:41 on the clock in the extra period, Parker scored the winner with help from Matthew Herb and Booth – who had this 13th assist of the season and earned the game’s third star honours.

The winning netminder was Braxton Bennett with 17 saves, while Josh Scully was hit with the loss turning away 38 of 43 shots.

The win stopped the Bears losing skid at two, as they’ve won four of their last six starts.

Smiths Falls heads to Ottawa on Nov. 2 to finish up their home-and-home series with the Sens.
