“Connect Lanark” broadband program launched

At Wednesday’s (May 12) Lanark County council meeting, the Connect Lanark program received final approval. This financial assistance is designed to help low-income families to achieve broadband internet installation. The program will be administered by the county’s social services department and will provide up to $2000 per household to cover the costs of installation only. Funds will be paid directly to the internet provider. The application criteria are similar to other county social assistance programs and anyone interested can call 613-267-4200, ext 2140 for more information.

“This is an important, progressive step forward in an ongoing effort to improve quality of life for the residents of Lanark County,” Warden Christa Lowry (Mississippi Mills Mayor) said. “Having the infrastructure in place for high-speed Internet is only effective if people can actually afford it. A program like this will help to make this critical resource attainable for many families and citizens.”
