Large shoes to fill

During Monday night’s Committee of the Whole meeting, Chief Administration Officer Malcolm Morris announced the upcoming retirement of two of Smiths Falls’ valued directors.

Town Treasurer Janet Koziel has held her position in Smiths Falls for over 19 years, and has announced her intention to retire at the end of this year. Her replacement will have “very large shoes to fill,” Morris commented, adding, “we wish Janet all the very best in her retirement.”

Director of Community Services Art Manhire has also announced his upcoming retirement at the end of 2022. “The town is working hard to fill that rather large void as well,” Morris told the Committee of the Whole. “I want to extend my gratitude to Janet and Art; thanks to them both,” he concluded.

Councilor Jay Brennan, who chaired Monday’s meeting, also thanked Treasurer Koziel and Director Manhire for their hard work. In addition, he took a moment to “thank Manhire personally for his work at the dog park; he’s made it bigger and better than I ever imagined, so thanks for that.”

We at Hometown News wish Director Manhire and Treasurer Koziel all the best in their retirement, and thank them for their dedication to Smiths Falls.
