Smiths Falls awards Water Tower Design RFP to EVB Engineering

During Monday night’s Committee of the Whole meeting, Director of Public Works and Utilities Paul McMunn presented a report to Smiths Falls town council on the current status of the water tower replacement project.

The town put out two Requests for Proposals (RFPs) last fall for a detailed design of the water tower, and the trunk watermain extension. They received five applications, and “all five firms are very reputable. We had to score them against each other, but they are all good options,” said McMunn.

McMunn recommended that the council approve EVB Engineering’s proposal for both projects. He noted that EVB met the rubric best across all categories, and that while it was not the lowest price, it was not the highest either.

Both of these projects should cost “just shy of $245,000, not including tax,” McMunn explained.

Councilor Dawn Quinn thanked McMunn for the detailed report. “It is so important to look at quality, knowledge, and ability. Thank you very much for that. This is going to be a big project and we want it done properly.”

Council supported staff’s recommendation to award the tenders to EVB Engineering for the detailed design and tender preparation of both projects.
